Partner for the medical sector
Packaging medical equipment in cases and flightcases made to measure. It sounds easy, but with such delicate equipment, there’s a lot to consider. In addition to functionality and safe transport, you also want the packaging to elevate the product. The cases and flightcases must serve as an extension. For every product in every sector, including the medical industry.

Custom Cases with a Medical Purpose

The medical sector thrives on innovation. Every analysis, development, and research is focused on improvement. Therefore, many different products are released in this sector, each specifically developed for a purpose. When so much effort is put into such specific products, every detail matters. This includes the cases in which medical devices and products are packaged. Gefken Cases has been active in this sector for many years, providing these specific custom cases. This applies to packaging, transporting, and presenting medical equipment.

With specially developed software, smart glasses have been made suitable for operating rooms. Remote surgical assistance through a live connection is now possible. And a product that is so groundbreaking for a sector deserves nothing less than the best cases on the market.

Through a connection, they reached out to Gefken Cases. During an initial meeting, the requirements of Rods&Cones were discussed, and the collaboration became a reality. The team of specialists took the product team through the entire process. Gefken Cases’ factory is equipped with a highly modern machinery setup and an engineering team that works with detailed 3D renders. This allows them to provide solutions that perfectly align with the needs of Rods&Cones. The specialists guided Rods&Cones in the development of these cases.

Through this innovative collaboration, the product now has a unique custom case that fits the product and is seen as an extension of it. The high-tech components are securely and firmly placed. Various components are also charged from within the case. Thanks to the full-color visual with a clear manual on the inside of the case lid, all parts can easily be returned to their proper place.

For every problem, there is a creative solution

One of the unique aspects of this case is the ventilation system. The equipment inside the case is charged within the case itself. During this charging process, the components get very hot inside the case. Gefken’s engineers came up with a solution for this. On both sides of the case, there are stainless steel ventilation grilles with fans mounted inside that create an airflow, drawing cool air into the case and expelling warm air out. This airflow passes through a tunnel inside the case, where all components such as power supplies and adapters, which can get warm during charging, are connected.
The first prototypes worked perfectly, except for one issue. The fans were too noisy. The need for quiet fans arises when the cases are stored in clinics. Fortunately, this was quickly addressed, and special very quiet fans are now used in the cases. This way, surgeons are not disturbed by the noise, and the cases are still always within reach.

Safe and Professional Around the World

The case has become an essential part of the medical smart glasses. The professional setup travels all over the world. The cases must be able to withstand bumps and knocks. Gefken Cases has taken care of that as well. The design and development process with Gefken Cases has been very successful for Rods&Cones, and they now order the cases in larger quantities. “It’s great to have one point of contact. Gefken Cases is clearly a professional company and has shown us how much is possible!”

The equipment is sent around the world, is relatively heavy and consists of cabling and many other components. Through one-to-one contact with one of Gefken Cases’ specialists, all these points were incorporated into the design in a functional way. Using wheels integrated into the flight case, which therefore do not protrude, the case is easy to transport. The number of cables needed for these devices have all been given a carefully thought-out place. As a result, they are less vulnerable and last many times longer. Gefken Cases has designed two different customised fligt cases for the two types of simulators. The height of the flight cases was taken into account. The flightcases are designed exactly so that the training simulators are at working height when you place them on the flightcases. A simple way to keep the training room as tight and clean as possible.

These tailor-made solutions, too, now that they have been fully thought out and designed according to the customer’s requirements, are regularly purchased in batches every year. Simendo and Gefken Cases have been working together for years and still the cooperation is very easy. There are no transfers to different departments and clear and honest agreements are made and kept.
